Artist, Educator and Advocate for Community Arts
Joetta Currie was born on a small farm in Kentucky.  When she wasn't shelling peas or feeding the chickens, you could find her drawing pictures for the outhouse wall.  It wasn't ideal gallery space, but it did provide a captive, even contemplative audience.

In the years since she has worked to maintain a simple approach to narrative art, telling a small story, revealing bits of personal information while entertaining with vivid color and the malleable composition of the female form. Joetta uses humor as she would color, line or shape; to suggest, expose and define a dichotomy of ideas, prejudices and predilections.

Currie lives in Rockwall, Texas with her husband and 14 year old son, two cats and nine fish in a pond out back.  She was a Founding Director of the Rockwall County Alliance for the Arts, and serves on the A.R.T. Commission for the City of Rockwall, working to promote the city's Art in Public Places Program.  Her studio is just north of the historic town square in Rockwall.

Art is idea.  It is not enough to draw, paint or sculpt.  An artist must be able to think.
